Greater New Haven Ob/Gyn is proud to offer both obstetrical and gynecological ultrasounds performed by our highly skilled ultrasonography team: Chris Reilly, Carolyn Gambardella, and Carol DeFilippo. We provide services on a daily basis in three of our four offices. We utilize the newest technology and our facilities and providers are accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

OB Ultrasound

GYN Sonogram An OB ultrasound is one of the more well-known uses of sonography: examining the fetus of a pregnant woman. Ultrasound scan is considered to be a safe, non-invasive, accurate and cost effective investigation of the fetus. It has become an indispensable tool and plays an important role in the care of every pregnant woman. This examination has many indications, such as: to evaluate the position of the fetus, diagnose congenital abnormalities, and to determine if there are multiple pregnancies. This exam is special, because it allows parents to have their first “glimpse” of their unborn child. Later in pregnancy fetal body measurements will allow assessment of the size and growth of the fetus.

GYN Ultrasound

A GYN (or pelvic) ultrasound evaluates the organs and structures found within the female pelvis, including: the uterus, endometrium (the lining inside the uterus), cervix, and ovaries. It is useful in identifying ovarian cysts/ masses and uterine fibroids/masses. It can be performed with the ultrasound transducer over the abdomen or in the vagina. Your provider may also order a sonohysterogram, in which fluid is used to visualize the endometrium more clearly to identify any thickening, fibroids, or polyps.
